This newsletter has more sitelen pona content than expected, so here’s an experiment: The Unicode character ⚂ will show you which items use sitelen pona. Let us know what you think of that!

Group projects

⚂ The Sitelen Pona Publishers & Typographers Association made an announcement about their new bilingual website, Common Sitelen Pona, and the ASCII input standard for sitelen pona! The association was formed to support people who use sitelen pona and to formalize consensus for technical standards such as Unicode.
ma.pona.la, a pin map for toki pona people, has exceeded 1000 pins! It also now comes with place names in toki pona and a globe mode.
The lipu tenpo team published an April Fool’s issue of the magazine, which includes texts in a variety of uncommon scripts!

This August we celebrated suno pi toki pona — Toki Pona Day! It consisted of ~39 panels spanning 24 hours of livestreaming, so let’s talk about everything that took place!

The celebration opened with me, kala Asi, summarising all the big community news of the past year and what the viewers could expect from the rest of the event.

We had wonderful musicians performing live:

A lot of interesting news this time around:

We have launched lipu.pona.la, a Toki Pona library! It includes prose, poetry, songs, blogposts, — anything we’ve been able to gather over the past year. Look around, start reading, find something you like, or add more to it!
jan Tamalu announced the results of the 2024 Toki Pona demographic survey, which was taken by ~2000 people! The next survey will open in August, on suno pi toki pona.
The folks behind lipu tenpo, a Toki Pona magazine, want to know what projects the community wants to see get additional support and funding!
jan Sonja consulted the community on proper names for languages and countries via a survey, which is now closed.
jan Netakin and jan Tekinowi are planning a Toki Pona game jam, which will be open from June 25 to July 1!

lipu tenpo has released its annual April Fools zine, this time themed as lipu tenpo nanpa kokosila! Instead of the usual toki pona, it features various other conlangs, including kay(f)bop(t), tuki tiki, Lojban, Uwulang, Klingon, and of course Esperanto.
ma pona added an ilo owe which censored many beloved words such as s*weli, t*ki, and u*pa.
kama sona added a channel for answering learner questions incorrectly! (Now archived; you can read it using the archive role.)
lipamanka’s semantic spaces dictionary now includes kijetesantakalu, which was coined for April Fools 16 years ago!
Having pilin tonsi is a rollercoaster of euphoria and dysphoria, but have you tried… pipi tonsi?

An icon/banner contest has begun ma pona! In short, the community is invited to create and submit art for the server until March 30th. This is part of a long tradition of updating server branding every year or so (see ma pona’s past icons and banners), this time also requesting new sitelen pona emojis. The contest winners will receive a small prize.
A sitelen pona survey has begun! We intend to learn more about community usage in order to make progress with sitelen pona standardisation, with the eventual goal of inclusion in Unicode. The survey will be open until April 1st.
The Ongezellig translation is looking for voice actors!
There will be a meetup in London on March 29th! Let organisers know if you want to attend. (The next Europe meetup is expected to be in Strasbourg in August, and the next North America meetup will be in June in Seattle.)
The next Tenpo Pana is upcoming on ma pona on March 30th. Tenpo Pana is a monthly opportunity for people to present something they’ve made.
